“Yoga For Health”: Celebrating International Yoga Day

With the theme “Yoga For Health”, World is observing “International Yoga Day” today. India is also celebrating the day escorted by PM Narendra Modi in Lucknow. On the occasion of third International Yoga Day, PM Modi demonstrated various asanas leading a group of at least 50,000 enthusiasts along with CM Yogi Aditya Nath. He also highlighted the importance of this traditional practice which has now become the part of every person’s life.

The theme for the 2017 celebration “Yoga For Health” organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, points towards the facts that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving equilibrium between mind and body.

Addressing a huge gathering at the Ramabai Ambedkar Maidan on the special occasion, PM Modi said, “Many countries which do not know our language, tradition, or culture, are now connecting to India through Yoga. The practice, which connects body, mind and soul, has played a big role in binding the world too.”

In his address, PM Modi who was donned in a white t-shirt and loose trousers said, “Earlier, Yoga was only restricted to saints and seers in the Himalayan mountains. Now, it has become part of every person’s life.”

Highlighting the benefits of Yoga, PM further added, “Yoga is about health assurance. It is not even expensive to practice. I urge everyone to make Yoga a part of their lives.”

Reportedly, the third edition of the celebrations played out at several venues throughout the country. People were spotted doing yoga in open plazas, municipal parks, gardens, schools etc.

To mark the importance of Yoga, Indian missions abroad will also organise programmes on Yoga with participants from various sections of the society.
