Tripura remains hot due to violence

Following violence between CPI-M and BJP on June 24 and 25, Tripura remains tense today also. The administration has secured 144Cr PC in southern town of Belonia keeping into mind the recent aggression.

According to a police official, The Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and CRPF jawans have been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Monchak Ipper said,”The prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC has been clamped in Belonia since yesterday. The situation is completely under control now.”

CPI-M secretary Bijan Dhar denied the allegation of BJP that CPI (M) cadres have been attacking BJP supporters across the state during the past two months. He claimed that the supporters of BJP were infuriating the emotions of the common people and making pre-plan attacks on them.

Bijan Dhar warned that his party will not tolerate such types of violence and called CPI-M cadres to go for resistance against any such attempt to destroy democratic norms and practices. He said, “Demanding imposition of Disturbed Area Act under AFSPA is a move to conduct election under the Centre’s control and capture power through back door like 1988 when Congress came to power.”

On the other hand, the vice –president of Bhartiya Janta Party Subal Bhowmik accused that last night in Belonia and other places, the houses of the BJP supporters were attacked by the cadres of CPI-M. Reportedly, they were even threatening the BJP supporters of dare consequence unless they leave the party.

Adding that Bhartiya Janta Party would go to any level to maintain peace and resist violence, Bhowmik said, “It is established that CPI-M won the past elections by manipulating the  votes and this time when BJP stood up to prevent such attempt, they were blaming the BJP.”
