The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that seeking votes on the basis of caste, community, religion or language is illegal.
The decision was taken by a seven-judge SC bench headed by Chief Justice of India TS Thakur.
The bench stated, “The relationship between man and god is an individual choice. The state is forbidden to have allegiance to such an activity.”
Three of the seven judges of the bench, however, showed their dissent over the decision. According to them, such verdict would be against the ethics of democracy.
