The significance of Kochi Metro can be picturised by the fact that this new metro will be India’s first to extensively use solar panels. On the final 25-km full stretch of the rail line, 22 stations will have solar panels. At least twenty five percent of the electricity needs is planned to be fulfilled by the solar power.
Moreover, Kochi will be the first one in India to have a ‘water metro’, which will be a feeder service to the rail metro. This means Kochi Metro is nation’s first integrated multi-model transport system.
