A group of school students from Lucknow are ready to perform various asanas at the UN headquarters in New York on “International Yoga Day”.
A 72-member team of City Montessori School (CMS), Lucknow, will give a live performance at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.The team is scheduled to depart tomorrow.
The same team had staged a special performance before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence, on May 19.
CMS founder Jagadish Gandhi told the media, “We have trained 72 students from different classes to perform at the mega event on Yoga day at UN. It will also be attended by UN Secretary General António Guterres.”
They will leave for the US tomorrow and also visit parts of New York during their stay. A special performance was arranged at the CM’s residence where the students were also awarded,” he added.
June 21 is observed as the International Yoga Day every year. It was declared by the UN General Assembly in December 2014 on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call.
In India, this year the city of ‘nawabs’, Lucknow will be hosting the main event for the Yoga Day. PM Modi and CM of state Yogi Adityanath will participate in the mega event along with 55,000 people.
Bhopal, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Ranchi and Bengaluru are also being considered as possible venues for the mega event.
On June 21, 2015, India’s first Yoga Day celebration was organised at the Rajpath in New Delhi in which representatives of 191 countries had participated.
Last year, the main event was organised at Chandigarh.
