An award-winning actress and producer who is perhaps best known for her breakthrough role as “Betty Suarez” on ABC’s hit comedy, Ugly Betty, America Ferrera says she is not much of a comedic actress and it is her talented co-stars of the sitcom who help her perform better.
America is presently starring in comedy TV series “Superstore”, which is produced by Justin Spitzer and deals with the daily lives of a group of employees working at a big-box store. The show also stars “Saturday Night Live” performer Ben Feldman, Canadian comic actress Lauren Ash and comedian Colton Dunn among others.
Talking to media on phone, America said, “Comedy is really great. Our cast has many true blue comic actors. I don’t really consider myself as a comedic actor. I feel like the space is enriching for me, to work with all these actors who come from the world of comedy. I have learnt a lot about the realm of comedy by watching them.”
TV series “Ugly Betty” which was based on Colombian telenovela “Yo soy Betty, la fea” and also was remade in India as “Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi”, has given heights to the career of America Ferrera.
For her outstanding performance on the show, America was recognized with a Golden Globe, Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award, as well as ALMA and Imagen Awards.
The 33-year-old actress, America has also been a part of dramas like “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 1 and 2”, “The Dry Land”, crime drama “End of Watch” and romantic comedy “Our Family Wedding”.
Replying to a question about which genre she enjoys the most, America says, “I personally don’t see myself as a comedic or dramatic actress. My background has always been pretty diverse in terms of tone and the type of things I have been involved in.”
